ssh localhost は動作しますが、ssh [localhost の外部 URL] は動作しません

職場のマシンに ssh で接続する方法を考えています (RHEL ベースのディストリビューションで OpenSSH 5.3 を実行しています)。キーや権限などの設定方法についての指示を受けており、これまではうまくいったようです。その指示に忠実に従っているのですが、ssh がうまくいきません (おわかりでなければ、私は ssh の初心者です)。

私を混乱させているのは、マシン自体からは完璧に動作するssh localhostがssh 127.0.0.1、出力がssh [url of machine]得られないということです。-v

これは、リモートでログインしようとしたときに表示される出力と同じです。管理者アクセス権がないため、どのログにもアクセスできないと思います。

これにより、問題が何であるかについての手がかりが得られますか? または、ルート アクセスなしで障害の詳細を取得する方法はありますか?

接続の受け入れや認証の方法など、SSH サーバーの動作を定義する構成項目があります。
