Es funktionierte, verschwand aber plötzlich von meinem PC und kann nicht erneut installiert werden. VLC lässt sich auch nicht installieren.
Das Ubuntu Software Centre gibt diese Fehler für Audacity aus:

Ich habe den Updates aller meiner bestehenden PPAs vertraut oder sie akzeptiert und siehe da, es stellte sich heraus, dass ich einige der erforderlichen Updates blockiert hatte.
