Der User-Space-Treiber von Synaptics ist nicht besonders gut bei der Handflächenerkennung.
In Ubuntu 17.04 libinputhandelt es sich um den standardmäßigen Benutzerbereichstreiber. Aus irgendeinem Grund ist er nicht installiert.
In einem Terminal ausführen
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-libinput
um es zu installieren. Starten Sie dann neu.
Das Tippen ist möglicherweise standardmäßig deaktiviert. Bearbeiten Sie es, /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.confdamit es folgendermaßen aussieht:
