Tengo un pequeño problema al instalar un módem en mi nueva computadora portátil Lenovo Thinkpad X260. El modelo del módem es Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A y el sistema operativo es Ubuntu 16.04.
En la pantalla de inicio de sesión en Ubuntu, apareció una ventana emergente para ingresar el PIN, por lo que deshabilité el PIN para la tarjeta SIM en un teléfono móvil. Esta es una instalación absolutamente nueva de Ubuntu descargada e instalada en mayo de 2017 sin absolutamente nada más instalado, solo intenté ejecutar el módem. La salida es
Banda ancha móvil: no habilitada en Network Manager.
He intentado crear una nueva conexión enConfiguración > Red > Banda ancha móvil, pero después de crearlo, ya no es posible hacer clic en él, no aparece por ningún lado. Cuando hago clic en administrador de red, puedo crear una nueva red a través deEditar conexiones, pero nuevamente, esta conexión recién creada no aparece en ninguna parte. También probé un software llamado Sakis3G pero no tuve suerte. No quiero cambiar a Windows sólo por esto.
Cosas que encontré en alguna parte y probé:
Lo primero que hice fue poner la tarjeta SIM en el teléfono móvil. Internet funciona allí y he desactivado el PIN en la tarjeta. Además, he probado el módem en Windows 7 y 10 y en ambos funciona.
He creado un archivo

También tuve un problema similar, la única diferencia es que tengo un Fibocom Cat6 L830-EB 4G LTE.
No sé si esto podría ayudarle, pero solucioné el problema al descargar la "GUI de Modem Manager" desde el centro de software de Ubuntu.
Tengo un Thinkpad T480 con Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Espero que esto pueda ayudar a cualquiera.

Tuve un problema similar al usar Linux Mint 18.2 (Ubuntu 16.04)
1) agregar 16.10 fuentes a apto
2) Instale modemmanager-1.6.0 desde la fuente y sus dependencias
# cd /usr/src
# apt-get source modemmanager {libmbim libqmi}
# apt-get build-dep {*}
# cd {*} ; dpkg-buildpackage
3) Debería funcionar ahora :-)
