En primer lugar, mi computadora ejecuta la versión 14.04.3 LTS de Ubuntu y el kernel actual (el que obtuve uname -r) es 3.13.0-63-generic. Por favor dime si necesitas saber algo más.
Mi problema es el siguiente: cada vez que intento instalar/desinstalar algún paquete, ya sea con apt-get o Synaptic, me sale un error sobre estos paquetes:

Hay un error en tu /etc/default/grub.
La línea

ya que el primero produciría un error semántico.
