Tengo un problema por el cual LightDM no se inicia cuando se ejecuta en modo de prueba lightdm --test-mode.

No hay errores reales, pero por alguna razón el portavoz dice que no comenzó. Si reinicio, LightDM aparece correctamente, por lo que debe tener algo que ver específicamente con el modo de prueba.

Solo para los archivos, ya que la pregunta es bastante antigua (pero es un resultado superior en Google).
Si echa un vistazo a $HOME/.cache/lightdm/log/x-0.log, puede ver otros errores como estos:
Fatal server error:
(EE) Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running(EE)

Deberías usar lightdm como administrador de pantalla cuando lo pruebes con "--test-mode" (esto es poco intuitivo, ejecutar algo que uno quiere probar primero...). ¿Quizás estás ejecutando gdm3 u otro dm?
