Tengo un problema con mi ubuntu 20.04. Mi /vat/log/journal crece a 195G. Cuando ejecuto el comando $tail -f /var/log/syslogveo un registro repetido y creo que este es mi problema.

No tengo idea de por qué ocurrió este problema. Recuerdo la última vez que actualicé Ubuntu. Quiere establecer una contraseña para el próximo reinicio, pero no obtiene la contraseña después del reinicio. Sé que no puedo borrar /var/log/journal y cuando lo ejecuto $ sudo rm -rf /var/log/journal/*no pasó nada.

Eso es correcto. rmsólo informa si se produce un error.
Sin embargo, debes reiniciar tu demonio para que surta efecto (o se reinicie) consudo systemctl restart systemd-journald.service
