*Editado después de una conversación muy útil con @chili555 en la que fallé al intentar demasiadas cosas al mismo tiempo...
El adaptador WiFi funciona en el kernel 5.13.0.20-generic, pero en 5.13.0-21 está inactivo y permanece inactivo después de múltiples apagados/reinicios. Verifiqué que está activo en BIOS y existe pero no funciona.

No está presente en networkmanager o ifconfig, aunque funciona Bluetooth, creo que es el mismo dispositivo. Muy agradecido por cualquier idea.

Esto funciona nuevamente con el kernel 5.13.0-22 ahora lanzado.
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo reboot
y si no quieres volver a ver esto nunca más:
sudo apt purge linux-headers-5.13.0-21 linux-headers-5.13.0-21-generic linux-image-5.13.0-21-generic linux-modules-5.13.0-21-generic linux-modules-extra-5.13.0-21-generic
