No se puede desinstalar MariaDB

Intenté reinstalar MariaDB, usé:

sudo apt-get purge mysql* mariadb*

Pero el único paquete que queda por desinstalar después del intento fallido anterior es mariadb-server-10.0.

Cuando intento purgarlo usando:

sudo apt-get purge mariadb-server-10.0

Obtuve este resultado:

MariaDB es una versión de código abierto (sin los problemas del padre Oracle) de MySQL. Debe averiguar en los registros de instalación de MariaDB dónde se instaló MySQL (podría estar en /etc/init.d) y luego detenerlo.

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop

Una vez hecho esto, realice la misma acción que está intentando realizar.
