El controlador de espacio de usuario Synaptics no es muy bueno en la detección de la palma de la mano.
En Ubuntu 17.04 libinputes el controlador de espacio de usuario predeterminado. Por alguna razón no está instalado.
Ejecutar en una terminal
sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-libinput
para instalarlo. Luego reinicie.
El toque puede estar deshabilitado de forma predeterminada. Edite /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.confpara verse de esta manera:
