No se puede configurar una resolución de 1080p en Ubuntu

Estoy trabajando en Ubuntu 10.04. Compré una computadora nueva e instalé Ubuntu 10.04 en ella.

Sin embargo, probé muchos métodos encontrados en Internet, como usar xrandr, modificar xorg.conf para aumentar la resolución, finalmente falló y solo funciona 800x600.

Quiero que sea 1920x1080.

¿Qué tengo que hacer?

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx no tiene soporte de controlador para la plataforma Intel Sandy Bridge, ya que se lanzó casi un año después de que Lucid lo fuera.

Considere actualizar a Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal o cualquier distribución que incluya un kernel de Linux con la versión 2.6.38 o posterior, ya que en estas versiones se agregó soporte completo para Sandy Bridge.

ElUbuntu Kernel Team ofrece versiones más nuevas del kernel de Linux para Lucid en su PPA, pero su sitio web te advierte: "No vengas llorando al equipo del kernel si mata a todos tus gatitos". En combinación con elúltimos controladores X Intel, eso debería brindarle soporte de Sandy Bridge en Lucid. Para instalarlo, ejecute los siguientes comandos:
