Powershell: ¿Por qué no se genera este bucle foreach?

Tengo el siguiente script simple:

$files = Get-ChildItem -Path '$path' -include "*"
foreach ($file in $files) {
    $ModDate = Get-Item $importfile | Foreach {$_.LastWriteTime}
    $CurrentDate = Get-Date
    $differece = ($CurrentDate - $ModDate).TotalSeconds
    write-output "$importfile - $differece seconds ago."
}

Sin embargo, aunque el primer write-outputcomando funciona, el segundo no. ¿Por qué es esto?

Tiene un uso incorrecto de comillas simples en la tercera línea: '$path' se evalúa como una cadena literal $path, que probablemente no sea una ruta real, umm.

Tiene errores de sintaxis y cosas que no están completas y están fuera de lugar. Write-Output es el valor predeterminado, por lo que no es necesario especificarlo. Utilice comillas simples para cadenas simples, dobles para expandir variables, escenarios de formato específicos que utilicen, por ejemplo, -f.

# write-output 'Calculating Mod Dates . . .'
'Calculating Mod Dates . . .'
