Nota al pie con símbolo especial en el comando de epígrafe

Question

Tengo un problema relacionado con una pregunta sobrenotas a pie de página y epígrafe.

Es decir, en esa pregunta egreg dio la siguiente (¡superlimpia!) respuesta:

Solo usa \footcitetext:

\epigraph{Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. 
  Ut purus elit, vestibulum ut}{Author\footnotemark}
\footcitetext{author00:_title}

Sin embargo, con esta respuesta no es posible obtener un símbolo como \daggerel de una nota al pie.

Debajo de la respuesta de egreg, le pedí una aclaración y amablemente señaló que es posible obtener ese resultado usando bigfootel paquete.

¿Cómo debería ser esa solución?

No creo que bigfootel paquete sea necesario, podrías usarlo

 \renewcommand*{\thefootnote}{\fnsymbol{footnote}}

(guardando - antes - y restaurando - después - el valor numérico del contador de notas al pie).

Para mayor comodidad, he creado dos macros ( \switchfootnotenumsymy \switchfootnotesymnum) para cambiar entre los dos tipos de notas al pie:
