Estoy usando GPT para particionar y el sistema de archivos es ext3. Cuando lo ejecuté, gdisk -lmuestra que el sector de inicio de la primera partición en el SSD (que es /sda) es 2040.
¿Recibo este error porque el disco no se inicia en los primeros 512 bytes?
Si no, ¿qué más podría estar causando este error?

Mi disco es ahora /dev/sdb. Simplemente tuve que borrarlo todo y comenzar la instalación nuevamente.

La primera partición puede comenzar en 2040, pero debe tener el indicador bios_grub y de eso se queja la instalación de grub.
Si lo hace, parted -l /dev/sdadebería obtener algo como:
