ElementaryOS Gala usando más del 100% de CPU constantemente

Estoy usando ElementaryOS con los controladores predeterminados y mi proceso Gala usa constantemente toneladas de CPU (a veces más del 200%).

He buscado por todas partes pero no pude encontrar una solución. Intenté instalar los controladores propietarios de ATI pero no puedo iniciar sesión en el sistema (pantalla negra).

Mi tarjeta gráfica es una ATI Mobility Radeon 5730.

¡Creo que finalmente lo solucioné!

Necesito crear un archivo xorg.conf y agregar, configurar el controlador correcto para radeon; Antes era fbdev.

Gala está usando 0% de CPU ahora. @mikeserv, tu comentario me indicó la dirección correcta. Sabía que mi X estaba siendo renderizado por software de alguna manera, pero no sabía exactamente cómo. Gracias.
