Estaba teniendo problemas para conectarme a la red inalámbrica CS de mi campus, pero no a otras redes. Mi administrador de sistemas sugirió usar una solución deaquí. Instalé los backports en la respuesta aceptada y reinicié. Cuando reinicié, NetworkManager no detectaba mi tarjeta inalámbrica y la interfaz wlan0 no estaba operativa. Inmediatamente desinstalé los backports pero el problema persistió. Intenté instalar los controladores para mi sistema desdeaquípero eso tampoco solucionó el problema. Supongo que una restauración de fábrica solucionaría el problema, pero preferiría evitarlo.

Si alguien pudiera ayudarme con esto, sería fantástico. La computadora portátil no tiene un puerto Ethernet, por lo que dependo del funcionamiento inalámbrico.
EDITAR: chili555 me ayudó a que esto funcionara a través del chat. El problema fue que Dell obliga a la computadora portátil a usar la versión 3.10 de los puertos traseros a través de DKMS. Lo eliminamos de DKMS y luego instalamos 3.13. Tenga en cuenta que cada vez que se instala un nuevo kernel, es necesario volver a compilar y reinstalar 3.13 para el nuevo kernel.

Para que podamos solucionar el problema, regrese al archivo de backports y haga:
cd ~/Desktop/backports-3.11-rc3-1/
make clean
make-defconfig-iwlwifi
make > make.txt

Ok, tu computadora portátil es compatible con Ubuntu:
Si puede conectarse a cualquier otra red aparte de su Campus, le sugeriría que el problema sea la red de su Campus y no su computadora portátil.
Le sugeriría que vuelva a su firmware anterior, tal vez incluso con una instalación nueva y solucione el problema desde allí.
Luego puede usar Wireshark para solucionar problemas de entrada de red (ambos lados con la ayuda de su administrador de sistemas), antes de comenzar a cambiar los controladores.
Además, ¿cuál es el problema con su conexión? Es decir, ¿obtiene una dirección 169 o una dirección 0.0.0.0 o simplemente le niega la entrada a la red?
Nota: El proveedor del punto de acceso también puede crear problemas de entrada a la red.
