Instalé Ubuntu 14.04 y ahora Windows no arranca

Mi computadora portátil venía preinstalada con Windows 8.1.

Configuré el arranque dual. Todo parecía estar bien y accedí a Ubuntu sin problemas después de seleccionarlo en el menú para seleccionar el sistema operativo. Debo agregar que el método de arranque se cambió a heredado.

Sin embargo, desde que uso Ubuntu, ya no tengo la posibilidad de seleccionar el sistema operativo. La computadora portátil simplemente arranca directamente en Ubuntu.

Por lo tanto, intenté acceder a las opciones de recuperación, solo que parece que el gestor de arranque de Windows 8 se ha dañado de alguna manera, ya que ahora me dicen que use el disco de recuperación de Windows 8 (que, como estaba preinstalado, no lo tengo).

Intenté reparar el arranque nuevamente sin éxito. Al reiniciar, solo aparece una pantalla de presentación básica que me pide que seleccione Ubuntu, Memtest, Windows 8 Recovery o Windows 8 Bootloader (los cargadores de arranque nuevamente requieren que inserte el disco).

No hice nada manualmente: el instalador hizo todo (con la excepción de cambiar el arranque a Legacy para permitir el arranque de otro gestor de arranque).

RESUELTO

Supongo que lo que pasó de alguna manera corrompió los archivos y, aunque el Live CD y el USB funcionaban en otras computadoras, esta computadora portátil se negó incluso a reconocer que el disco y el USB estaban insertados, lo que me llevó a enfrentarme al infernal Grub Recover.

Afortunadamente estaba usando un Sony Vaio que tiene este increíble botón ASSIST. Para usar esto, apague la computadora portátil por completo y luego, en lugar de presionar el botón de encendido, simplemente presione el botón ASSIST. Esto obliga a abrir la Consola de recuperación de Sony.

Desde aquí, es posible recuperar el sistema operativo, verificar y reparar el disco duro y también acceder al BIOS... y así lo hice.

En una visita anterior al BIOS, cambié las opciones de arranque a LEGACY para poder instalar otro sistema operativo con Windows 8. Por lo tanto, cambié esto de Legacy a UEFI y verifiqué dos veces el orden de arranque. Luego guardé, reinicié y ahora tengo la opción de seleccionar SO.

Mi sistema Windows no arranca en modo heredado en absoluto; creo que necesitarás volver a encender UEFI para que Windows 8 se ejecute. Si es posible, a veces existe una opción de arranque UEFI/no seguro que funciona mejor para mí.

En lugar de trabajar directamente con GRUB, uso grub-customizerel que maneja casi todo lo que necesito hacer y, dado que lo hace en una interfaz gráfica agradable y sencilla, es mi opción preferida. Una cosa que hace es escanear el disco duro para buscar sistemas operativos alternativos para colocar en los menús de inicio.
