No puedo montar al arrancar mi disco USB externo formateado en NTFS

Tengo un nuevo disco USB externo, quiero usarlo con ntfs porque necesito usarlo con archivos grandes y con algunos dispositivos que no reconocen las particiones ext de Linux.
Recibo el error "El punto final de transporte no está conectado", así que busqué en Google, pero no puedo encontrar una solución.

Pero si desmonto el disco mediante sudo y luego lo vuelvo a montar como usuario, funciona (observe los diferentes permisos del directorio de la biblioteca):

Me parece que es fstab el que no puede montar el disco porque el usuario que lo ejecuta no tiene permiso para hacerlo. Pero ni siquiera sé si fstab se ejecuta con un usuario, así que tal vez esté pensando mal.
