Estaba realizando una actualización normal (Ubuntu 10.10, 64 bits) y falló la actualización del software. El centro de software arroja el error "Los elementos no se pueden instalar... ¿Quiere repararlos"? Presiono el botón de reparación y luego aparece el error "Error en la operación del paquete".
Busqué en la red y encontré un par de cosas para probar:
**sudo apt-get install -f**

Puedo ver que una dependencia de openjdk no funciona, pero no estoy seguro de qué hacer a continuación para solucionar el problema. Necesito instalar otro software en mi máquina y esto me está frenando.

De alguna manera resolví esto hace unos días, pero no estaba claro cómo lo hice. En cualquier caso, el problema volvió a ocurrir hoy, al actualizar. Encontré un sitio en japonés que mostraba la respuesta:
$ which update-alternatives
/usr/bin/update-alternatives
$ sudo which update-alternatives
/usr/local/bin/update-alternatives
$ sudo mv /usr/local/bin/update-alternatives /usr/local/bin/update-alternatives.old
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
2 not fully installed or removed.

Entonces, en resumen, había 2 alternativas de actualización diferentes, y solo tenía que asegurarme de que estuviera ejecutando la "correcta".
