¿Existe todavía alguna forma de instalar Wine en AMD64?
Cuando intento instalar Wine, termino con:
$ sudo apt install wine1.6-i386

Todo lo que necesita hacer es instalar la versión correcta de Wine1.6 para su sistema operativo Ubuntu 14.10 de 64 bits. Abra la terminal y escriba:
sudo apt install wine1.6
Si también deseas instalar Winetricks ejecuta el siguiente comando:
sudo apt install winetricks
Wine1.6 todavía se puede instalar en Ubuntu 20.04, pero en Ubuntu 18.04 y posteriores, Wine-Stable es una versión más nueva que Wine1.6 y en Ubuntu 16.04 y posteriores, Wine-Development es una versión aún más nueva que Wine-Stable.

Es posible agregar el PPA e instalarlo a través del terminal. Sólo tipo -
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
Luego actualice la información del paquete APT ejecutando sudo apt-get update. Ahora puedes instalar Wine escribiendosudo apt-get install wine1.7
