
Instalei recentemente o Ubuntu e em cada inicialização vejo isto:

Depois de executar fsck
manualmente o Ubuntu inicializa normalmente limpo, porém após a inicialização, vejo o ícone de cadeado em todas as pastas do meu sistema e nenhum dos aplicativos é executado. Também comecei a ver problemas com meu navegador:Firefox is already running, but is not responding
Não tenho certeza do que há de errado aqui. Tenho executado fsck
manualmente e inicializado.

e pressione enter sempre que o terminal solicitar entrada.
Agora depois que o processo terminar, digite:reboot
Após reiniciar, abra o terminal. Certifique-se de ter conectividade com a Internet e digite:
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get updrade
Agora, seu sistema iniciará normalmente a partir de agora.

Eu tive um problema semelhante, o motivo foi o mau funcionamento do HDD, assim que o substituí por um novo SSD e fiz uma instalação limpa do Ubuntu o problema desapareceu.
Se foi devido a setores defeituosos no HDD, isso eu verifiquei em uma ferramenta do WindowsDisco Rígido Sentinal. Pelo que eu sei, o setor defeituoso não pode ser removido sempre que for devido a danos físicos no disco. Além disso, meu HHD tinha mais de 5 anos e atingiu o tempo de gravação.
No meu novo SSD fiz uma instalação limpa do Ubuntu 21.04 e funcionou perfeitamente.
Eu tinha dado a mesma resposta emTroca de pilha Unix.
