Eu tentei um backup com esta linha
tar cvf - --format posix -b 1024 -X /home/user/altro/file.esclude /home/user | openssl aes-256-cbc -salt -k "pass" | dd bs=40M of=/dev/st0
O tamanho total do meu backup é de 1 TB
A fita é LTO-5 1,5 TB (3 TB compactada)
Depois de 15 a 30 minutos, recebo este erro

Há algo quebrado com hw ou é um erro tar/dd?

Achei que a "solução" estava com defeito, no meu caso o cabo SAS. Após a substituição do cabo funcionar bem
