Não há GUI instalada e abaixo estão informações úteis sobre meu servidor:

Fiz todo o possível, mas não consigo executar ping no DNS do Google ou em qualquer URL.

Primeiro, a interface de loopback é necessária e não deve ser removida. Eu sugiro que você altere o /etc/network/interfacesarquivo para isto:

auto lo 
iface lo inet loopback 

# The primary network interface 
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.4.20   
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.4.1
dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 4.2.2.2

Faça com que o sistema releia e use o arquivo alterado:

sudo ifdown -a && sudo ifup -a

Teste:

ping -c3 www.ubuntu.com
