Estou tentando me conectar à Internet no meu laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad executando o Ubuntu 18.04) conectando-me ao meu telefone (iPhone 6s) por meio de um cabo USB-Lightning.

Presumivelmente, o “link não está pronto” é onde as coisas falham? Estou me perguntando se este é um problema de firmware/driver e talvez reverter uma atualização resolveria as coisas. Vou ver se consigo descobrir como fazer isso. Consigo me conectar usando o telefone como um ponto de acesso sem fio, mas não usando Bluetooth.

Parece que refazer a instalação apt install --reinstall <list-of-packages>resolveu esse problema. Presumivelmente, isso significa que a instalação foi corrompida de alguma forma, embora eu ainda não tenha certeza de como isso não foi sinalizado de alguma forma ou como eu poderia ter descoberto isso pelas mensagens de erro que estava recebendo. Mas, de qualquer forma, o problema está resolvido agora.
