Nota de rodapé com símbolo especial no comando de epígrafe

Tenho um problema relacionado com uma questão relativanotas de rodapé e epígrafe.

Ou seja, nessa questão a seguinte resposta (superlimpa!) foi dada por egreg:

Apenas use \footcitetext:

\epigraph{Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. 
  Ut purus elit, vestibulum ut}{Author\footnotemark}
\footcitetext{author00:_title}

No entanto, com esta resposta não é possível obter um símbolo como \daggerum símbolo de nota de rodapé.

Abaixo da resposta do egreg pedi esclarecimentos e ele gentilmente ressaltou que é possível obter tal resultado usando bigfootpackage.

Como deveria ser essa solução?

Eu não acho que bigfooto pacote seja necessário, você poderia usar

 \renewcommand*{\thefootnote}{\fnsymbol{footnote}}

(salvando - antes - e restaurando - depois - o valor numérico do contador de notas de rodapé).

Por conveniência, criei duas macros ( \switchfootnotenumsyme \switchfootnotesymnum) para alternar entre os dois tipos de notas de rodapé:
