Eu uso biblatex-sbl e este é meu resultado atual:

Na bibliografia alemã, é bastante comum citar a edição (em alemão "Auflage") não como "2. Aufl.", mas o número da edição em sobrescrito antes da data de publicação, como:
Gehrke, Hans-Joachim. Geschichte der Antike. Um livro de estudos. Estugarda, 22019.

Seu MWE não compila porque há alguns bugs.
Você carrega babel, mas depois usa a polyglossiamacro \setmainlanguage.
Você só quer \usepackage[ngerman]{babel}e remove \setmainlanguage[variant=new]{ngerman}(o que não acho válido de qualquer maneira).
Você também usa \setmainfont{Times New Roman}, mas não carrega fontspeco que define essa macro.
Na sua redefinição do incollectiondriver você tem \usebibmacro{bookeditor}, mas essa macro não está definida no biblatexou biblatex-sbl, então é gerado um erro. Você precisa definir o bookeditorbibmacro.
Por fim, a razão pela qual você está imprimindo a edição duas vezes é porque você redefiniu o cite:incollectiondriver, mas sem cercar sua redefinição com \makeatletter… \makeatother. Sua redefinição contém \let\ifciteseen\@firstoftwo. O \@firstoftwoé interpretado incorretamente porque @possui o código de gato errado.
Isso também significa que o patch inferior que tenta remover a edição falha.
Como você está redefinindo completamente os incollectiondrivers, basta deixar a edição fora da redefinição e não será necessário corrigir abaixo.
