Não consigo fazer o tkz-fct produzir o desenho da função. Tenho a impressão de que é causado por uma atualização recente que fiz com o tlmgr.
O Gnuplot está funcionando bem e eu compilo usando --enable-write18.

sim você está certo. A nova versão do tkz-base é incompatível com a versão do tkz-fct.sty. Ocorreu um pequeno problema ao carregar o novo arquivo no CTAN. Você terá que esperar um pouco antes de encontrar o pacote no CTAN. Atualmente você encontrará o arquivo v1.2aqui
Acho que \tkzActivOff
não é mais necessário com a versão mais recente do TikZ.
