Tentei fazer algo com \begin{groupplot}e \begin{figure}[h!]mas não parece funcionar. Não é preciso mencionar que não sou especialista nisso.

Parece que seria melhor não usar a standaloneclasse, mas um padrão article. Veja um exemplo abaixo. Os títulos e cabeçalhos das seções são obviamente opcionais.
