Não é possível iniciar o mysql - error.log escrito constantemente

Recentemente, meus sites hospedados em um servidor Ubuntu começaram a exibir "Erro ao estabelecer uma conexão com o banco de dados".

Conectando-se ao servidor, parece que o mysql está sendo reiniciado constantemente (3s atrás, 20s atrás, etc, cada vez que tento este comando):

Meu arquivo /var/log/mysql/error.log também está crescendo rapidamente. Ele contém muitos caracteres estranhos seguidos de texto como:

Acho que o problema foi originalmente causado por um disco rígido cheio. Tentei restaurar um backup antigo do servidor, mas o mais antigo que tenho parece já estar com o problema.

Estou completamente preso e sem soluções. O que posso tentar agora?

Na sua seção my.cnf [mysqld] você precisa de uma linha para

thread_cache_size=64

se a linha não existir na seção, adicione à seção [mysqld], por favor.
