Estou tentando atualizar o CentOS e recebo os seguintes erros. Tentei remover o Python e não consegui.

O CentOS 6 vem com o Python 2.6.6, mas aparentemente você instalou o Python 2.4 ou pacotes compilados no Python 2.4 por meio do RPMForge usando seu CentOS5RPMs, conforme evidenciado por el5alguns dos nomes de arquivo fornecidos.
Você precisa remover esses pacotes e instalar as versões corretas do EL6.
Geralmente, misturar duas versões diferentes do Python em um Linux do tipo Red Hat é uma péssima ideia porque grande parte do sistema operacional principal é baseado em Python. Você certamente terá conflitos como esse.
Existem maneiras seguras de configurar uma instalação isolada de uma segunda versão do Python, mas essa é uma questão separada.

O problema seria agravado se seguissemos cegamente o conselho de ignorar pacotes quebrados. O problema vem de repositórios mistos. Para começar a reparar o problema, desative o repositório rpmforge e, se a atualização ainda falhar, tente atualizarpeçasda lista para reduzir o número de pacotes conflitantes.
Mesmo quando você tem conflitos, yum update ainda aceita nomes de pacotes opcionais, por exemplo,
yum update chkconfig.x86_64
Como observa @warren-young, paraterminarreparando o sistema, você terá que remover os pacotes que entram em conflito com o CentOS. Fazer isso geralmente é mais simples se apenas alguns pacotes estiverem listados no arquivo yum update.

Para ser honesto, neste ponto a solução mais fácil será reinstalar o sistema operacional do zero. Sinceramente, estou surpreso que o yum funcione. Fique longe do rpmforge, isso não é umrepositório seguro. CentOS acredita que o projeto éabandonado. Se você precisar de versões mais recentes do Python no RHEL/CentOS, você deve considerar os pacotes paralelos doProjeto IUS.
