Depois de postar bem e me mostrar o menu grub, meu monitor mostra "Sem sinal". Eu fiz o truque do "nomodeset" e é assim que estou digitando este post, mas não quero que isso se torne uma 'solução' permanente. Tentei fazer o downgrade para 14.04.5 (o único ISO 14.04 que consegui encontrar no ubuntu.com por algum motivo) e acabei com o mesmo problema. Decidi fazer dual boot 14.04.5 e 16.04.1 apenas para poder alternar se precisar (eles estão usando a mesma partição para a pasta pessoal).
Quando em 14.04 não consegui instalar os drivers fglrx por causa de dependências não atendidas (como estaaqui). Voltei para 16.04 e tentei os drivers Radeon e AMDGPU, sem sorte.
Uma coisa estranha é que se eu conectar minha televisão HDMI no MOBO, junto com o cabo VGA, ambos funcionam bem (em 16.04, não consegui testar isso em 14.04). Percebi esse problema na semana passada quando desisti do meu monitor HDMI.
Estou usando umAMD A8-7600, sem GPU discreta. Aqui está minha lista completa de peças por uma questão de brevidade.

Isso parece mostrar que está detectando o monitor. Eu não tenho certeza. Não consegui descobrir qual é esse problema e só queria perguntar aqui como último recurso, quando me senti completamente perplexo. Então aqui estou. Podequalquer umme ajude?

Você não pode instalar fglrx
em 14.04.5 porque ele tem backport de HWE a partir de 16.04 (mais informações emWikiUbuntu). 14.04.4 está bom, fglrx
pode ser instalado lá. Você pode baixá-lo emLançamentos antigos do Ubuntu(role para baixo para ubuntu-14.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso
). Além disso, você podedesabilitar mensagens HWE EOL(novamente, lembre-se de que você também não receberá atualizações de segurança).

Por ser uma versão HWE, também conhecida como Hardware Enablement Stack, ela vem com novos drivers de kernel e gráficos (X-Server, Mesa, etc). Às vezes, isso resolve problemas com uma determinada variedade de hardware, como placas gráficas.
Além disso, já que você mencionou um cabo VGA: você tentou outro cabo para conectar o monitor ao computador? Por exemplo, recentemente usei um cabo VGA analógico para conectar meu monitor LCD a um computador com CPU AMD A6 (também sem GPU discreta) e isso apenas traria uma tela preta. Como no seu caso, apenas o parâmetro nomodeset funcionou, mas o driver gráfico do Linux desativa a aceleração de hardware e resoluções mais altas.
Então substituí o cabo VGA por um cabo DVI, que permite que a placa gráfica e o monitor troquem informações de hardware, em contraste com um cabo VGA, e tudo funcionou bem imediatamente. É claro que um cabo HDMI também deve funcionar bem, caso seu monitor e computador possuam tal conector.
