Похоже, что ваш файл sources.list отсутствует, судя по описанию темы. Проверьте, действительно ли отсутствует файл...

file /etc/apt/sources.list

Если он отсутствует, я прикрепил копию оригинального файла sources.list в конце этого ответа. (Кстати, я заметил, что вы вошли в систему как root. Вероятно, лучше войти в систему как администратор и повышать свои привилегии по мере необходимости).

В терминальном типе

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Вырежьте и вставьте содержимое списка источников, показанного в конце этого ответа. Закройте gedit и введите следующее в терминале

sudo apt-get update
