Как определить новую длину с помощью:

\newlength{...}
\setlength{...}{...}

и равна высоте строки определенного шрифта (например \tiny\ttfamily)

Примечание: Мне нужно решение, которое не требует написания чего-либо в \begin{document}\end{document}детали.

Это зациклит все символы (от 0 до 255), поэтому это хорошо только для pdflatex; для XeLaTeX или LuaLaTeX с потребуются некоторые другие эвристики fontspec.

Длина \fonttotalheightопределяется как высота плюс глубина, если только не *используется вариант -, который будет измерять только высоту, без учета выносных элементов.
