Фу, так много вопросов в одном вопросе!
1) Чтобы затенить заголовок, мне пришлось переопределить заголовок и заменить \rule, который обычно задает цвет фона, на горизонтальную штриховку.
2) затенение боковой панели было немного проще, мне пришлось просто заменить sidebar canvas leftшаблон на вертикальную заливку
