¿Cómo ignorar archivos más grandes al enviarlos a github?

Soy nuevo en git e intenté enviar el directorio de mi proyecto a github.

A continuación se muestran los pasos que seguí.

git init

git add .

git commit -m 'first commit'

git push <my repo address>

Luego, a continuación se produce un error.

muchos hicieron referencia a crear un archivo .gitignore para ignorar archivos. Así que creé el archivo .gitignore con el siguiente contenido.

*.iso
*.bin
*.ova

Luego ejecuta los siguientes comandos

git add .

git commit -m 'ignoring certian image files'

git push

Pero nuevamente ha arrojado el mismo error.

¿Cómo arreglar este problema?

si escribes gitignore que solo contiene:

*.iso
*.bin
*.ova

git simplemente ignora el archivo *.iso *.bin y *.ova en su directorio raíz, pero no en su directorio imágenes/,

puedes probar :

images/*.iso
images/*.bin
images/.ova

git filter-branch -f --index-filter 'git rm --cached --ignore-unmatch images/*.bin images/*.ova images/*.iso'
