Tentei todos os outros posts "o som não funciona", eu acho, perdi a conta.
limpar/reinstalar alsa e pulsar, reinicializar, adicionar usuário ao grupo de áudio, várias linhas no arquivo de configuração alsa, como "opções snd-hda-intel model = ", então tentei diferentes opções como genérico, automático, básico, padrão, etc. pulseaudio -k && sudo alsa force-reload algumas vezes, com e sem reinicialização.
Hardware: 16 GB de RAM, núcleo I7-4790, placa-mãe Intel Haswell com som e gráficos integrados Multimídia: Adaptador de áudio: HDA-Intel-HDA Intel HDMI SO: Servidor Ubuntu 14.04 com ubuntu-desktop instalado.

ATUALIZAÇÃO: Agora adicionei uma placa de som USB Creative Soundblaster play 2 e desativei a integração do BIOS. No meu desktop Ubuntu funciona imediatamente, então o hardware funciona com certeza. No servidor não está fazendo nada. Ainda apenas uma saída fictícia nas configurações de som (pulso).
reinstalado/purgado/etc, mas sem sucesso.
alsamixer não está mais abrindo, proc/asound não existe
