Exibindo exemplos lado a lado

Atualmente estou aprendendo LaTeX em 'The Not So Short Introduction To LaTeX' e nesse livro muitos exemplos são exibidos lado a lado:

$a^2$ 'Lado esquerdo da página' --------------------------------- 'lado direito da página' a ^ 2

Gostaria de fazer o mesmo no artigo que estou escrevendo, mas não consigo encontrar o comando para isso?
