Como compor manualmente texto em paralelo em páginas opostas em (Lua)LaTeX?

Question

Quero compor um texto bilíngue em paralelo em páginas opostas usando LuaLaTeX. As soluções existentes para automatizar esta tarefa revelaram-se insatisfatórias, pois não permitem notas de rodapé (paralelas), não permitem diferentes tamanhos de fonte dos dois textos paralelos (eledpar) ou geralmente fornecem um resultado ruim de blocos de texto alinhados (eledpar).

Como o texto não é muito longo, cheguei a pensar em quebrar as páginas sozinho. Para isso, tenho que resolver o(s) seguinte(s) problema(s):

Considere duas páginas opostas com parágrafos finais de comprimentos diferentes. Os parágrafos seguintes devem então começar na mesma posição vertical, de modo que os inícios dos parágrafos seguintes fiquem voltados um para o outro. Para que isso aconteça tem

1. para determinar a posição do final do parágrafo mais longo em sua página
2. ter os meios para permitir que os próximos parágrafos paralelos comecem na posição identificada.

Isso é algo factível? Existem mecanismos fornecidos pelo (Lua)LaTeX para determinar posições em uma página e começar a composição em uma posição específica em uma página?

EDITAR: O exemplo a seguir ilustra a tarefa. Aqui o parágrafo latino que começa com "O tempora, o mores" (terceiro pedaço de texto no código) deve começar na posição oposta ao início do parágrafo "Shame on the age..." (quinto pedaço).

Eu sei que esta é uma questão antiga que não vê nenhuma atividade há algum tempo. Este tópico é importante para mim, pois usei muitos textos em latim durante meus estudos na universidade.

Como filósofo e historiador, usei frequentemente traduções de textos antigos e sempre me perguntei como elaborá-los. Só posso imaginar o pesadelo que essa tarefa deveria ser, se alguém usasse um processador de texto comum.

Como tenho certeza de que este é um tópico/problema que muitos na área de estudos clássicos das humanidades enfrentam, gostaria de dar um exemplo mínimo que ilustra as maravilhosas possibilidades do pacote reledmace reledpar.
