Como alterar o tamanho da fonte do documento no preâmbulo de 11pt para 12pt?

Se o documento for assim

Existe um comando que pode ser inserido, no preâmbulo, para alterar o tamanho do documento para 12pt? Você pode perguntar, por que não mudar \documentclass[11pt]{report}para \documentclass[12pt]{report}? Isso ocorre porque preciso alterar o tamanho sob alguma condição que verificarei no preâmbulo.

Difícil adicionar a própria condição sobre a \documentclasslinha, por outros motivos. Então estou procurando algo assim

Mas não quero fazer o que foi dito acima, pois os arquivos Latex originais são gerados automaticamente e o software que uso não gosta do arquivo acima se eu fizer isso e não poderei usá-lo nesse software. Mas posso modificar o preâmbulo facilmente sem afetar o uso do arquivo novamente.

Não consigo compilar uma das respostas abaixo. Dá erro em pdflatex, lualatex e também tex4ht. Não sei se devo fazer outra coisa.

NoAulas de script KOMAisso pode ser feito facilmente graças ao \KOMAoptioncomando, que permite determinar uma opção de classe fora \documentclass, seja dentro ou fora do preâmbulo. (No entanto, se emitida fora do preâmbulo, a fontsizedeclaração da opção entrará em vigor a partir desse ponto.)

Com umclasse padrãovocê pode carregar o pacote scrextend. Então o tamanho da fonte pode ser alterado durante o carregamento deste pacote ou posteriormente por \KOMAoptionou \KOMAoptions.
